A decision to be better...

My name is Jade and I’m a weird Armenian-American girl, still finding myself in this crazy world. Currently, there are many uncertainties and a general disillusionment with life. I think my way of trying to stay sane is getting in a good workout. 

 

 

For the past few years, I’ve spent many hours at the gym, both professionally as a trainer and as a wannabe athlete. Currently, I’d say I’m a mediocre CrossFitter, weightlifter and swimmer. I want to spend the next year dedicating myself to the pursuit of being better. Mentally, emotionally and most specifically, I want to challenge myself physically. The best way I can gauge that is by my ranking in the CrossFit Open. This year I ranked 234th fittest woman in the United States and 364th fittest woman on Earth in my category. Top 200 in the world move on to the next level of competition.

 

Top 200 in the world may not seem like a big deal but the level of dedication and commitment and the sheer amount of hours spent working on weaknesses, perfecting strengths are focusing on recovery are like a tough, full time job. Additionally, the resources necessary to reach this level are simply not attainable for most people on earth, not to mention the proverbial “talent” it takes to compete with the best in the world. 

 

I’m not arrogant enough to think I can compete with the best but I know that I can do better. I'm not sure if I believe the "you can do anything you've set your mind to" types of statements. I'm too much of a realist and perhaps a bit jaded. I do believe that we can all do and be better. I believe that being uncomfortable and constantly challenging yourself leads to growth and confidence and pure joy.

 

The tangible goal for the 2020 CrossFit Open is to be top 200 in the United States. With every goal, one needs a plan. My plan includes this blog to keep me accountable and to document my journey and where it takes me. I’m wise enough to understand that it’s about the process and it’s the process of getting fit and strong that I absolutely love. It has taken me a long time to get here but I’m ready for the discipline and dedication that awaits me... 

 

Goals: 

  1. Top 200 in the United States in my category in 2020

  2. Break HSU clean and back squat record 

 

Plan: 

  1. Swimming classes 2x week

  2. Rowing classes 2x week

  3. Gymnastics classes 2x week

  4. CrossFit 5x week

  5. Weightlifting 2x week
